“I didn’t expect it this early. I thought that death was a possibility, but I was more worried about my wife. We have so many loose ends and usually I’m the one who takes care of things like that. My first thought was “Oh my god, I can’t dump this all on her”

"It was a very slow process. I started to see symptoms of prostate cancer when I was traveling to Mexico in February. It took a while to see the doctor, about a month. When I got the PSA back it was 59, which is through the roof. I knew I was in trouble, but it takes a couple of weeks before you can see anybody."

"So about a month later I received the biopsy done and sure enough it was bad. Luckily, when they did the bone scan they saw it hadn’t spread out of the immediate area. I made an appointment here to discuss treatment because my only options were some form of radiation and hormone therapy. Came here, spoke to Dr. Reagan, waited a couple months for hormones to kick in. Now they’re starting to radiate me, 5 days a week for 9 weeks.”"

“I remember the worst part so far. When you first start hormone therapy, they give you a pill to suppress the flare up in testosterone that usually happens. When I ran out of that pill after two weeks, there was a period of about a week where there was still a little flare up. I remember borderline having to go to the hospital just to urinate. It was really bad. But then, within a few days, it started to shrink up and became much more tolerable. The side effects of treatment have been much easier to deal with than I expected.
